Residence Time Distribution for Tubular Reactors

چکیده
In the core of Chemical Engineering is the reactor design that includes most of all scientific disciplines. The reactor, in general, are treated ideally: mixed and plug-flow patterns. Unfortunately, it is observed in the real world a very different behavior from that expected. Thus, to characterize nonideal reactors is used, among others, residence time distribution function E(t), mean residence time tm and cumulative distribution function F(t). The aim of this present work is to determine in the Comsol Multiphysics a distribution of residence time of a tubular reactor that is used, didactically, in the Chemical Engineering Laboratory in Federal University of Parana. The results were compared with experimental dates that concluded the modeling of the reactor showed good agreement according to the correlation coefficient of 0.97. At last, it was purposed a modification in the reactor’s geometry to take note with its hydrodynamic would get better.

In this paper a two impinging streams cyclone contacting system suitable for handling of solid-liquid systems has been studied. Certain pertinent parameters such as: solid holdup, mean residence time and Residence Time Distribution (RTD) of solid particles have been investigated. A stochastic model based on Markov chains processes has been applied which describe the behavior of solid partic...

A mathematical model for the prediction of internal recirculation of complex impinging stream reactors has been presented. The model constitutes a repetition of a series of ideal plug flow reactors and CSTR reactors with recirculation. The simplicity of the repeating motif allows for the derivation of an algebraic relation of the whole system using the Laplace transform. An impinging stream...
متن کاملModeling of Non-Newtonian Reactive systems in Tubular Reactor
A vast majority of material processing in industry involves homogeneous phase reactions. These reactions are carried out in batch mode as well as continuous mode. The empty tubular reactors are widely used reactor systems for continuous processing in chemical and allied industry. The heat effects due to these reactions necessitate the use of some heat removal/addition system with these reactors...

Thermal cracking of a heavy liquid hydrocarbon was performed in a laboratory scale tubular reactor. Central Composite Design (CCD), was used as an experimental design method. The design variables were Coil Outlet Temperature (COT), feed flow and rate steam ratio. Maximum yield of ethylene was 30.37 wt% at COT, residence time and steam ratio of 869oC, 0.208 s and 1.22 g/g, respect...
